A scarce original 1950 to 1956 issue 'British Railways Midland Region cap badge'; gilded brass example depicting a lion astride a wheel, the centre 'Crimson Lake' red enamel bar inscribed "Yard Master". Fair condition, original two loop fittings now absent, the enamel title with light scratches to Yard and heavy gouging to Mast, gilt finish remains bright. Price reflects.

In 1956 following a 'Grant of Arms' a demi-lion holding a wheel between its paws and rising from a crown was introduced in badge form for caps, and this symbol was displayed above a fishtail style bar badge which was enamelled in the regional colours and lettering to denote ticket collector, porter,guard, foreman or excess, with a 'British Railway' one to cover other grades.
