A scarce original Second War period WRNS officer's hat badge, padded light blue cotton embroidered wreath, silvered metal fouled anchor to the centre, surmounted by a red velvet and gold wire King's Crown, the reverse with black hessian cotton backing and retailers paper label 'Stephen Simpson Gold & Silver Lace Manufacturer and Embroiderer Avenham Rd Works, Preston'. A good original circa 1940's 'WRENS association pin badge', bronzed oval example, bearing 'Jenny Wren' anchor with 'Naval Crown' to voided centre, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'J.R.Gaunt London'. Very good condition, complete with orignal pin fittings, patina remains bright. Height 30mm. The Association of Wrens was formed in 1920 by a group of ex-wrens to maintain the friendships formed in the 'Women's Royal Naval Service' and to keep the spirit of the Service alive.

A scarce original First World War period 'Women's Royal Naval Service WRNS badge'; large pewter plated rope edged Crowned hollow oval, resting in a laurel wreath with 'Admiralty' scroll below, the centre with raised figure of 'Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson' in full uniform. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings, wear to the plated finish. Height 47mm. The Admiralty badge was worn in the First World War by WRNS working in the Admiralty and WRNS Headquarters before their official uniform had been issued. Accompanied by a photocopied letter from the 'National Maritime Museum' dated 7 November 1978 stating that the above information had recently come to light.
