WW1 Wigan War Souvenir Xmas 1914 children of fighting soldiers badge

A rare original First World War period 1914 gilt and enamel circular badge with title surround "Wigan War Souvenir Xmas 1914" to the centre a symbol of the 'Moot Hall, Wigan, Greater Manchester'. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect, an exceptional example.
Diameter 26mm.

In 1914 an appeal was launched by the Mayor of Wigan, Alderman Grimshaw, so that all the children of Wigan Soldiers whose fathers were away from home fighting for King and Country could be given this badge and 1lb of chocolate on Christmas Eve.
