WW2 Womens Land Army WLA hat and uniform badge variant.


A very unusual flat backed, slightly rounded example of a Second World War period 'Womens Land Army gilt badge', inlaid with green enamel to central wheatsheaf and red enamel to the much larger than usual Crown. Very good condition, complete with original horizontal tube pin fittings and rounded catch, no damage to the enamel.
Height 38mm.

Worn on the felt hat and also on the uniform green jumper, discontinued after 1942 due to the metal shortage.

A rare original wartime period 'Women's Land Army Timber Corps beret badge', the reverse with maker's details "A Stanley & Sons Walsall 1-A". Very good condition, retaining original two blade fittings, no fading, warping or distortion, an excellent example.
Height 51mm.

The 'Women's Land Army Timber Corps' was formed in 1942 to solve the increased demand for timber, they worked in the forests felling trees and also in the sawmills and wore identical uniform to the WLA except the felt hat was replaced by a green beret and Timber Corps plastic badge. They were disbanded in 1946.

A scarce 'Women's Land Army and Timber Corps Veterans badge, officially awarded by the 'Government Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs' from 6 December 2007, to those who served during the First or Second World Wars. Crowned gilded metal laurel wreath, bearing central wheatsheaf on a field of white enamel, within a title circlet inlaid with green enamelling "Women's Land Army and Timber Corps", the reverse impressed "Firmin". Complete with original velvet lined, green leather gold tooled presentation case with maker's details to the lid. Very good mint condition.

They were disbanded in 1946.

A very good original example of a rare 'Women's Land Army Ten Years Service badge', authorised in 1949 for ten years dedicated to the cause; gilded brass example depicting a wheatsheaf on green enamel ground within a Crowned laurel wreath with title scrolls and still retaining its original red felt backing, the reverse with maker's details "J.R.Gaunt London". Excellent condition, retaining original pin fittings, gilt remains fresh, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.

Women's Land Army was formed in June 1939 and officially disbanded on 21 October 1950.
