A rare original circa 1914 First World War period 'Metropolitan Police Special Headquarters Central Detachment HQCD white metal shoulder title badge' small crowned example. Very good condition, complete with original two loop fittings.
Size approx 20 x 24mm.
The HQCD, or Headquarters Central Detachment, of the Metropolitan Special Constabulary was formed in 1914 with more than six hundred citizens enrolled by December including peers, members of the House of Commons, medical and other professional men, actors, merchants and clerks, they had many important duties including furnishing a Police guard for Buckingham Palace as well as service in Hyde Park and during air raids.
