Newcastle Chronicle Sunshine Fund Black Cat Good Luck Badge

A very scarce surviving c.1940's period 'Chronicle Sunshine Fund small gilt and enamel pendant, depicting 'Gloops' a cheeky cartoon black cat, the reverse inscribed in embossed lettering 'I BRING YOU LUCK'. Very good condition, complete with suspension ring to attach to a chain necklace.
Diameter approx 19mm.
The Gloops Club was established in 1928, it was a popular Saturday supplement for children in the Newcastle Chronicle newspaper, featuring 'Gloops' a cheeky cartoon black cat. Young members, known as 'Junior Gloopers' were issued a number and a black cat badge, pledging to do a daily act of kindness.
