A very scarce original circa 1970's period 'King Edward VII’s Hospital For Officers pin badge'; chromium plated oval inlaid with pale blue enamel, the centre displaying the Crowned Royal Cypher of King Edward VII over 'Sister Agnes Founder 1899 within title surround, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'W.O.Lewis (Badges) Ltd B'Ham 19'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, with safety roller catch in good working order, no enamwl loss,

Sister Agnes established the hospital in 1899 in the wake of the Second Boer War and at the suggestion of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) who went on to become the hospital's patron. Its first intake of sick and mostly gunshot-wounded British Army officers arrived in February 1900.
