WW1 Devizes & District Women's Emergency Corps war workers badge Wiltshire
A scarce original First World War period 'Devizes & District Women's Emergency Corps pin badge'; gilt metal example bearing black enamel title surround, the centre with embossed 'Coat of Arms of Devizes' gilt Castle on halved red and blue enamel ground; the reverse impressed with early maker's details 'THOMAS FATTORINI BOLTON' founded in 1903 and transformed into a Limited Company in 1919. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel perfect, gilt finish remains bright, an excellent example. Diameter approx 24mm.
The Women's Emergency Corps was a service organisation founded in 1914 by Evelina Haverfield, Decima Moore and the Women's Social and Political Union (Suffragettes) to contribute to the war effort of the United Kingdom in World War I. The corps was intended to train woman doctors, nurses and motorcycle messengers.
