A scarce original early 20th Century period charitable foundation gilt badge' in the form of a rounded reamed patté cross, inlaid with red enamel, the central white disc inscribed 'The Gloucestershire Society B'Ham District 1910'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'W.O.Lewis Birmm'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel. Height 25mm.
'The Gloucestershire Society was founded in 1657 by fifty wealthy gentlemen who lived in Bristol. Their aim was to distribute some of their wealth through the charitable foundation to those of Gloucestershire birth, who had fallen upon hard times.
