A scarce ORIGINAL circa 1905 -1921 sheet brass LARGE pattern finely lined fleur-de-lys sleeve badge chosen by Colonel Baden Powell when he introduced scouting in the Army whilst out in South Africa commanding the 5th Dragoon Guards circa 1897. The first official mention traced is in Army Order of 1905. This example was worn by Army Scouts 1st Class. Good condition, complete with original loops fittings and split pin, some minor service wear. Height 84mm.
Robert Baden-Powell served in the British Army from 1876 until 1910 when he retired from the army and formed 'The Scout Association' for boys.
The 'Baden Powell Trained Army Scouts' badge was abolished in 1921.
