A scarce original 'Primrose League Honorary Knight Full Dress gilt medal' the reverse impressed with maker's details 'T & JB' (T & J Bragg Ltd Birmingham) and 'Rd 41563' a registered, design and patent number for 1886, later fitted with a Special Service 1914 suspension pin bar with same maker's details.Very good condition, small restoration to enamel crown, complete with original primrose colour silk ribbon with violet borders and housed in a velvet lined fitted leather case, this with minor service wear.

In 1883 Lord Randolph Churchill father of Winston Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Slade and Sir John Gorst formed this Conservative backed league to promote not only the party also National Patriotism and the unity of the British Empire. The motto of the League became Imperium et Libertas", this taken from the famous speech delivered by Benjamin Disraeli the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1879.
