A scarce original First World War period large die cast bronzed lapel badge, bearing 'ARMY SERVICE 1916' title circlet within a laurel wreath, the centre inscribed 'ARMY CANTEENS'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Fattorini & Sons Ltd Bradford' and official issue number '1435'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting.
Height 40mm.
Army Service Army Canteens came under the auspices of the Expeditionary Force Canteens (EFC) which was established in 1915 and designated a War Office institution under the control of the Army Council. The 'EFC' were the forerunner of 'The Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes' (NAAFI)
