A scarce original fine quality 'S.S.Montrose ships wheel brooch', mounted to the centre a highly enamelled maple leaf representing the Canadian voyages this Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd' shipping line company ship undertook; the reverse bearing Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1935 and maker's details 'B.Bros'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, minor service wear.

'S.S.Montrose' was built by Fairfield Co, Glasgow for Canadian Pacific SS Co, she started her maiden voyage on 5th May 1922 from Liverpool to Quebec and Montreal. In the Second World War she was then converted to the Armed Merchant Cruiser and became 'HMS Forfar'. On the 2nd December 1940 she was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U.99 off the West coast of Ireland with the loss of 172 lives.
