A very scarce original King George VI period 'RAF No 98 Bomber Squadron Royal Air Force' gilt and enamel badge, the centre depicting the mythical creature 'Cerberus' and motto 'Never failing', the reverse impressed with maker's details 'H.W.Miller Ltd Branston St B'Ham.18'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright. An excellent example.

RAF 98 Squadron saw action during the Great War and in 1936 was reformed as a Bomber Squadron. At the outbreak of WW2 it was operating the Fairey Battle light bomber and was posted to the British Expeditionary Force operating with the Advanced Air Striking Force. After the fall of France it was attached to RAF Coastal Command for anti Submarine Patrols and 'ASR' Air Sea Rescue work. It was disbanded in July 1941 only to reform in September 1942 now equipped with the Mitchell light Bomber as part of 2 Group. It continued with this aircraft after the D Day landings flying close support operations with the advancing army flying from liberated airfields in France. In the post war years now based in German it’s aircraft included the Vampire and Hawker Hunter. The Squadron was disbanded in 1957.
The Squadron number was resurrected in 1959 as a Strategic Missile Squadron. It Colours were finally laid up in 1976.
