WW1 Thankoffering to the Hartlepools Hospitals 1918 tribute badge

A scarce original Great War period 'Hartlepools Hospitals Bombardment Durham RGA tribute medal'; large oval gilded brass example mounted with an 'Artillery Fuse', green enamel title surround 'Thank offering to the Hartlepools Hospitals 1918' and flanked by the date 'DEC 16th 1914'; the centre embossed with a scene of a nurse tending a patient superimposed over a large cross issuing rays of sunlight. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright. An excellent example.
Height 48mm.

In order to raise funds for the Hartlepools Hospitals who had been hard pushed during the bombardment, the Borough issued what have commonly been called the 'Bombardment Medal'. Several types were produced and they were given to all those people who contributed to a collection made in Hartlepool in 1915.
