WW2 Frank Hawtin on war National Service badge Novelty Company Blackpool

A rare original wartime period home front gilt badge in the form of a white enamel title strap 'Frank Hawtin', the centre depicting a pair of finely feathered wings issuing from a lion's head on blue enamel ground; the reverse with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham' and impressed with official low issue number '96'. Good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, enamel damage to right wing, gilt finish remains bright.

'Hawtin’s Novelty Company' Blackpool, supplied Jukeboxes and machines to the amusement arcade industry. During the Second World War they 'Did Their Bit' and adapted the factory for the production of aircraft parts for the war effort.

'National Service' was established in 1939 to promote all forms of service for the war effort. Many employers introduced their own National Services badges to denote war service. These served to indicate that the person employed was working in the national interest and as a form of protection against been called a mIlitary service dodger.
