A scarce original '1934 Trade Union Congress badge' bearing the Tolpuddle design farewell to the convicts logo; hexagonal bronze medal depicting a sailing ship below a night sky displaying the 'Crux constellation' or the 'Southern Cross' and suspended from a bar with title 'Organising Services TUC', the reverse with embossed inscription 'TUC DORSETSHIRE LABOURERS CENTENARY 1834 - 1934' and maker's details 'Frank Cobb & Co Sheffield'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs were a group of six 19th century Dorset agricultural labourers who were arrested for swearing a secret oath as members of the Friendly Society of Agricultural Labourers. They were tried, convicted and transported to Australia for the crime of trying to form a union.
