A scarce original wartime issue London volunteer fireman's 'Auxiliary Fire Service home front badge'; large red silk embroidered 'AFS Richmond' on black felt wool backing, this been worn on the breast of the tunic uniform, the reverse with cream hessian lining. Very good used condition, colours remain bright.
Height 10cm.

The 'Auxiliary Fire Service' AFS was first formed in 1938. In 1941 the 'Auxiliary Fire Service' and the local authority fire brigades were amalgamated to become the 'National Fire Service'.
