WW1 THE BETTER 'OLE British Army & Navy Leave Club Paris badge Barnsfather cartoon

A very scarce original post 1915 Great War period English made soldier souvenir badge from a leave club based in Paris France 'The Better 'Ole'; large circular gilded brass highly enamelled example, displaying a 'Union Jack flag', the central white disc bearing part of the Bruce Barnsfather cartoonist quip, the reverse embossed 'Souvenir - British Army & Navy Leave Club - Paris'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.

On the 24 November 1915, The Bystander magazine published what would become Bairnsfather’s most famous cartoon 'Well, if you knows of a better ‘ole, go to it!'.
