Boer War tribute medal Worcester Volunteers 1900 silver medal
A rare original silver 'Boer War Tribute Medal' the silver disc with embossed enamel shield with the ancient arms of the 'City of Worcester', below Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1900 and maker's details 'H.B.S' Sale Birmingham, the reverse inscribed within laurel sprays PRESENTED BY THE CITIZENS OF WORCESTER TO 'Pte. T. Insall' IN RECOGNITION OF HIS SERVICES WITH THE WORCESTER VOLUNTEERS SOUTH AFRICAN WAR 1899 1900 1901. Good condition, enamel with old restoration, evidence of having had a claw style suspension ring, service wear. Diameter approx 31mm.
'6754 Private Thomas Insall' is confirmed as serving with the 1st Volunteer Active Service Company, 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment during the Boer War. He is confirmed as serving with the 1st VB Worcestershire Regiment F Company HQ Halesowen. Born in 1866 he served with the VB before joining the Grenadier Guards in January 1888. After only 90 days service with the Guards, he was discharged and rejoined the 1st VB Worcestershire Regiment.
