A scarce original early pattern circa 1920's 'Union of Post Office Workers badge'; gilded brass example in the form of a large caduceus bearing white logo with red enamel letters 'UPW', the reverse impressed with 'Rd 632818' a Registered Design and Patent Number for the year 1914, prior to the amalgamation in 1919. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel, minor service wear.
Height 37mm.

The Union of Post Office Workers was formed in 1919 from the amalgamation of the Postal and Telegraph Clerks' Association (1881 to 1914), the Fawcett Association (1890 to 1919) and the Postmen's Federation (1881 to 1919). The UPW changed its name to the Union of Communication Workers 'UCW' in circa 1981.
