A scarce original First World War period 'Silver War Badge officially numbered "167778", awarded to "R/1723 RFN. Joseph Lester"; unmarked silver circlet inscribed "For King And Empire" "Services Rendered" bearing crowned "GRI" Imperial Cypher to voided centre, together with his original cap badge. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings.
Diameter 33mm.

Awarded to 'R/1723 RFN. Joseph Lester' of the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He enlisted on the 2nd September 1914, landed in France 23rd July 1915 and was discharged as the result of wounds on the 29th April 1917. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
The 'Silver War Badge' was awarded to service personnel who were honourably discharged due to wounds or sickness whilst serving in the Great War. It was worn on the lapel in civilian clothing.
