Womens Royal Air Force First Pattern 1918 other ranks WRAF cap badge

A rare original 1918 first pattern other ranks 'Women's Royal Air Force cap badge'; black felt backing with padded white embroidered Crown, raised velvet boss below with white double rope binding and bearing eagle to the centre, the reverse with black ribbed cotton lining. Very good condition, evidence of having been sewn to a cap.
Height 70mm.

On the 1st April 1918 the 'Women's Royal Air Force' was formed, however it had a very short existence when in April 1920 it was disbanded and the RAF paved the way for all future air service women.
