St Peter's Boat Club Cambridge circa 1840 - 1843 button


A scarce early Victorian period 'St Peter's Boat Club button'; fine quality gilt example made in two part bearing a ribbon title scroll with crossed keys to voided centre; the reverse impressed with maker's details "P&S Firmin 153 Strand London" a marking used only for a short time between 1840 and 1843. Very good condition, complete with original shank, gilt remains bright.
Diameter approx 24mm.


'St Peter's Boat Club' was established in Cambridge 1828. In 1873 its named changed to 'Peterhouse Boat Club' and a new pattern of button was introduced bearing the title "Pet, Coll Cam" below shield with "BC" and crossed keys.
