A scarce original memento from the '1951 Festival of Britain National Exhibition'; chromium plated example in the form of a rocket style symbol named the "Skylon" the base bearing the emblem designed by 'Abram Games' which depicts the profile of Britannia's head with crested helmet on the north point of a four-pointed compass rose, with painted enamel decoration, the body set with patriotic red, white and blue glass stones. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, complete with all stones.
Height 46mm.

The Skylon was a futuristic-looking large steel structure built in 1951 for the Festival of Britain, located by the River Thames in London it gave the illusion of floating above the ground. It was removed in 1952 when the rest of the exhibition was dismantled.
