A scarce original King George VI period 'RAF No 5 Squadron' gilt and enamel badge, depicting a maple leaf with Latin motto "Frangas non electas" (Thou mayst break, but shall not bend me), the reverse with maker's details "Emblems Ltd, 15 /19 Kingsway, London, W.C.2". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, very minor spots of verdigris.
Height 30mm.

RAF No 5 Squadron's close association with the 'Canadian Corps' lead to the incorporation of a maple leaf in the squadron's badge, approved in June 1937.
