A scarce original First World War period 'Silver War Badge officially numbered "356970", awarded to "27841 Pte Alfred Roper"; unmarked silver circlet inscribed "For King And Empire" "Services Rendered" bearing crowned "GRI" Imperial Cypher to voided centre. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings.
Diameter 33mm.

Awarded to Private Alfred Roper of the Hampshire Regiment. He enlisted on the 8th November 1916 and was discharged as the result of wounds on the 26th March 1918. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
The 'Silver War Badge' was awarded to service personnel who were honourably discharged due to wounds or sickness whilst serving in the Great War. It was worn on the lapel in civilian clothing.
