A scarce original Second World War 1940 period official issue 'Local Defence Volunteers' armband, from the force in existence for only seventy days; black printed "LDV" on khaki twill, the ends stitched together to form a band, together with Home Guard short overlay strip to modify LDV Armlet this having been stitched on at the time. Very good used condition.

After the German forces invaded Holland and Belgium on the 10th May 1940 an appeal was made on the 14th May by Anthony Eden for men between the age of seventeen and sixty-five to join a new force known as the 'Local Defence Volunteers'. After only seventy days of existence on the 23rd July 1940 the name was changed to the 'Home Guard'.
