A very scarce original Great War period 'Soldiers, Saliors Families Association silver badge'; crowned blue enamel title circlet, the centre depicting Queen Alexandra cypher of crossed initials 'A' intertwined, the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1915, maker's details "B&P" (Bent & Parker), registration numbers "REG No 647623" a design and patent for the early part of 1915 and official issue number "4578" "Non-Transferable". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings enamel perfect, an excellent example.

'Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association' S.S.F.A. was founded by Major Gildea in 1885 with Queen Alexandra becoming the first president. With the creation of the Royal Air Force in 1918 the organisation changed its name in 1919 to the 'Soldiers', Sailors' & Airmen's Families Association' S.S.A.F.A.
