British Automobile Racing Club c1950 BARC embroidered badge


A superb quality rare original circa 1950's 'British Automobile Racing Club member's badge'; large black felt shield displaying a silk embroidered stylized lion on a chequered flag, "BARC" and "British Automobile Racing Club" in gold wire bullion within double strand border; the reverse with black waxed hession lining. Very good condition, colours remain bright, bullion a little dulled.
Height approx 107mm.

Formed in 1912 as 'The Cyclecar Club'. In 1919 the name was changed to 'The Junior Car Club' which amalgamated with the 'Brooklands Automobile Racing Club' after the Second World War. With Brooklands racing venue gone forever, the clubs name was changed in 1949 to 'The British Automobile Racing Club' and found a new home at the 'Goodwood Circuit'.
