A scarce original First World War period double sided paper flag day badge, the front depicting a 'laying hen' inscribed "National EGG Collection For The Wounded", the reverse "Patron Her Majesty Queen Alexandra 1000,000 Eggs Wanted Every Week Head Office, 154, Fleet St. E.C.4" Good condition, retaining original single pin.

The National Egg Collection was a national scheme started in the First World War to supply the scarce and much needed fresh eggs to the wounded soldiers and sailors recovering in local War Hospitals, weekly appeals continued well into 1919.
