SS Voltaire Lamport & Holt shipping line ships wheel badge

A scarce pre-1939 period 'S.S. Voltaire Shipping Line gilt and enamel brooch', the 'Lamport & Holt Lines Ltd' company enamelled "L+H" flag mounted to the centre of a white enamel ship's wheel. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect, gilt finish remains bright.
Diameter 27mm.

'S.S. Voltaire' was lauched in 1923. She was converted to Armed Merchant Cruiser in 1939 with her name changed to 'HMS Voltaire' and was sunk in 1941 whilst in battle with German raider 'KMS Thor', with the loss of 75 lives.
