A rare original wartime period 'Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory A.R.P. lapel badge', this example inlaid with red enamel, the reverse with maker's details "J.R.Gaunt London". Very good condition, retaining original buttonhole lapel fitting, enamel perfect, chromium plate with age wear.

'Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory' was constructed in 1938 and situated in Solihull Birmingham. The factory built more than half the Spitfire planes produced in the Second World War, it took many direct hits from enemy bombs causing fatalities. In 1945 the aircraft factory was closed and it became a car factory later to become part of Jaguar.
