Nat Amalg Soc Operative House Ship Painters Decorators union badge

A scarce original 1904 to 1935 example of the 'National Amalgamated Society of Operative House and Ship Painters and Decorators' trade union membership badge; ornate shape design, inlaid with light blue enamel bearing the "Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers" Coat of Arms to the base, with dark green scroll above with the union's title, surmounted by the 'All Seeing Eye', the reverse impressed with maker's details "Fattorini Bradford". Good condition, retaining original round shaped design lapel fitting, associated with the early 19th century, very minor enamel defects, but overall a good example.
Height 30mm.

Wikipedia Quote; The union had its origins in the Manchester Alliance of Operative House Painters, founded in 1856, which loosely grouped together some local unions based around the city of Manchester. It underwent numerous name changes before emerging in 1886 as the more closely unified National Amalgamated Society of Operative House Painters and Decorators. It merged with the Amalgamated Society of House Decorators and Painters and several smaller unions in 1904, to form the National Amalgamated Society of Operative House and Ship Painters and Decorators (NASOHASPAD). In 1935, it shortened its name to the National Society of Painters.
