A scarce original Elizabeth II period 'Royal Air Force No 224 Squadron gilt and enamel badge', depicting a tower on a rock entwined by a serpent and Italian motto "Fedele all'amico" (Faithful to a friend), the reverse impressed with maker's details "H.W.Miller Ltd B'Ham.18". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect, gilt remains bright.
Height 34mm.

From August 1951 RAF No 224 Squadron operated from RAF Gibraltar until disbanding on 31 October 1966. During this period its main tasks were NATO maritime surveillance as well as search and rescue duties within the Gibraltar Martime Area.
