An interesting Royal Navy sports medal from the ill-fated 'HMS Glorious', the obverse bearing the ship's crest and motto "Explicit Nomen" (The name explains itself) in relief, the reverse bearing Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1929, maker's details "Page, Keen & Page" and engraved "1931 Putting The Shot". Housed in its original velvet lined fitted leatherette case with details to the lid "By Appointment" "Page, Keen & Page Ltd. Plymouth.". Very good condition, minor age wear to case.

HMS Glorious, an aircraft carrier, was sunk on the 8th June 1940 by the German Battleships 'Scharnhorst' and 'Gneisenau' with the loss of over 1200 souls.
