A scarce wartime 'Queen's Messenger Ministry of Food' good quality unmarked silver badge, the Crowned flag bearing a "QM" and inlaid with yellow enamel, set against a light blue enamel backing, the reverse with indistinct maker's details. Good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, minor surface scratches.
Diameter 26mm.
Formed in 1941 and known as the Queen's Messenger Convoys with the permission of Her Majesty the Queen. They comprised of twelve vehicles with fifty mainly WVS volunteer helpers who travelled to severely blitzed areas to feed the local population cut off from water and gas and with food shops destroyed. These badges were highly prized by the Women's Voluntary Service volunteers.
