A very large fine quality silver gilt and enamel badge displaying a King's Crown and depicting the squadrons emblem, a winged '1' with Latin motto scroll "In omnibus princeps" (First in all things), the reverse bearing Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1979, an impressed eagle and RAFM in a quatrefoil. Very good condition, no damage to the enamel, original plain back without any pin fittings.

This RAF No 1 Fighter Squadron badge is a single example and was originally from a collection of twenty five RAF Squadron Crests depicting the fighter Squadrons that participated in the Battle of Britian and was issued by the Royal Air Force Museum as a numbered limited edition to commemorate the historic Battle over England’s skies in 1940. Each crest was inset into the red velvet and housed in a glazed gilt frame with brass plate to centre bearing a facsimile signature of Group Captain Douglas Bader.
