A rare original Second World War period 'Soldiers Saliors & Airmens Families Association S.S.&.A.F.A armband', finely made from machine edged navy blue felt secured by a stitched seam, embroidered with red letters 'S.S.&.A.F.A' above a King's Crown and circlet enclosing Queen Alexandra's cypher of crossed initials 'A' set on white cotton backing. Very good condition, colours remain bright, one moth hole.

The Soldiers and Sailors Families Association (SSFA) was founded in 1885 by Colonel Sir James Gildea, an officer in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Queen Alexandra was appointed President. In 1921 the Association changed its name to The Soldiers Sailors and Airmens Families Association (SSAFA).
