George Stephenson 1881 centenary medal commemorating his birth


A frosted silver white metal based medal commemorating the birth in 1781 of George Stephenson, railway engineer.
The obverse shows the head and shoulder side view of the great man encircled by "George Stephenson" "Born June 9.1781. at Wylam. Newcastle-on-Tyne. Died Aug.12.1848".
The reverse shows "The Rocket 1830" the steam locomotive designed and built by George Stephenson for the 1829 Rainhill Trials held by the Liverpool & Manchester Railway Company to try and find the best and fastest locomotive and it was there that "The Rocket" made history.

Good condition, with age wear to the silvered finish.
