A scarce original circa 1940's wartime 'Women's Voluntary Service Corps Canadian Red Cross hat badge'; large silver plated circular example with embossed title surround, the centre displaying red transluscent enamel cross on white enamel ground, the reverse impressed with maker's details "Mappin". Very good condition, the reverse with crudely soldiered replacement loops, enamel perfect. Diameter 38mm. The 'Women's Voluntary Service Corps Canadian Red Cross' was formed in June 1940 initially to train women as ambulance drivers for the Red Cross Society and the armed forces, later this was amended to include auxiliary nurses, office and food administration sections.
