A scarce original circa 1941 to 1945 wartime period 'French Vichy supporters pin badge'; small silvered gilt shield inlaid with white enamel, the centre displaying a red, white and blue double headed axe with blue shaft bearing 10 gilt stars; the reverse impressed 'OFFERT PAR LE MARECHAL' in relief and French Silversmith's details 'Arthus Bertrand & Cie' 'a wheel gear surmounted by a star, surrounded by the letters 'AB&CIE'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.
A scarce original circa 1941 to 1945 period 'French Vichy Fascist lapel badge'; small gilt double headed axe inlaid with red, white and blue enamels, the shaft comprising a Marshal’s baton of blue enamel and bearing 10 gilt stars; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'A.Augis 28 Mtee St Barthelemy Lyon'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel.
Created on 26th May 1941 by the Vichy authorities to rank as the highest national award on a par with the Legion of Honour. It could be worn on both military uniform or civilian dress and was awarded for having performed brilliant deeds of military or civic service, or have shown active attachment to the person and work of the Marshal etc.
