A rare original First World War period 'National Farming & Dairy Worker's Union badge'; gilded brass circular example inlaid with blue enamel, depicting a cow surmounted by crossed shovel, pitchfolk and rake 'N.F.&D.W.U. A scarce original circa 1940's 1950's period 'The British Herdsmen's Club badge'; chromium plated circular badge bearing four embossed ovals containing the head of a sheep, cow, horse and pig within a blue enamel title surround. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel perfect.
Diameter 24mm.

The British Herdsmen's Club membership list was made up of herdsmen, stud-grooms and shepherds, it produced an interesting annual periodical called 'The British Herdsmen's Journal' and had 524 paid-up members in 1935. The club would look after the welfare of its members in sickness and unemployment.

A scarce pre-war circa 1930's 'The Society of Sussex Downsmen' supporters badge; silver plated circular example with black enamel title surround, the centre displaying a pair of yoked oxen ploughing a field, 'The Pride of Sussex' a round-headed rampion, slipped, above with 1923 below, the year it was founded. The reverse impressed in relief with 1930's style maker's details "Fattorini & Sons Ltd, Bradford Works B'Ham" in a circular format. Condition is very good except for enamel defect to oxen side. 'The Women's Farm & Garden Association Incorporated' was first established in 1899 as 'The Women's Agricultural and Horticultural International Union' the name was changed to 'The Women's Farm and Garden Union in 1910 and to the Women's Farm and Garden Association in 1921, with the additional 'Incorporated' added in 1929. The society was responsible for the establishment of the 'Women's National Land Service Corps' in the First World War, which was taken over by the 'Board of Agriculture' in 1917.
