A rare original pre war 'XIE Congres De La Ste Internationale de Chirurgie membership badge'; oxidised silver plated medal depicting a surgeon and team in a operating theatre; suspended from blue, yellow and red silk ribbon with suspension bar inscribed 'Bruxelles September 1938' and original named card insert 'M.H.H. Greenwood'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings. Height 68mm. The 'International Society of Surgery' or the 'Societe Internationale de Chirurgie' is an international society of surgeons founded in 1902. In 1938 the venue had to be changed from Vienna to Brussels at the last moment because of the Germany's occupation of Austria.
