British Red Cross Society 1915 Medical Officer technical badge 9 carat gold.

A very rare unique original Great War period medal issue to a Doctor working for the 'British Red Cross Society' Technical Branch' bearing 'Medical Officer' bar, the reverse impressed with Birmingham 9 carat gold hallmarks for 1915, maker's details 'JRG&S' (J.R.Gaunt & Sons) and inscribed 'No 244 Dr. James Hunter'. Very good condition, complete with original silk ribbon, 9 carat gold title bar and buckle suspension with pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, an excellent example, housed in its velvet lined fitted leather case.
Overall Length 82mm.
Weight approx 18.9 grams with ribbon.

The British Red Cross Society Technical badges were instituted in 1914 and were eligible to members of the Voluntary Aid Detachments with professional qualifications, they were discontinued in the mid 1960's.

This Red Cross War Service Medal is believed to have been Posthumously awarded to Volunteer William King who died on the 19th October 1918 and now rests in Poole Cemetery. A native of Reading he volunteered for service with the 13th Berkshire Red Cross in 1915 and served as an Orderly, first at Springfield and then later at The Lodge Parkstone. He died whilst on service.

A good original pre 1960s full sized Voluntary Medical Service fifteen years long and efficient service silver medal bearing two clasps each for a subsequent 5 years of service awarded to a Mrs.Sylvia M.Clark. The obverse depicting a symbolic representation of Florence Nightingale carrying her lamp with the initial "PM" for the designer Percy Metcalfe; the reverse displaying the Geneva and St Andrew cross denoting the British Red Cross and St Andrew's Ambulance Corps (Scotland) organisations who issued the award. Very good clean condition, complete with original silk ribbon and suspension bar.
