A good original First World War period Crowned 'VW' Volunteer Workers brass badge, the reverse with embossed maker's details 'J.R.Gaunt London' and impressed with official issue number '53722'. Good condition, complete with original substantial pin fittings. Height 30mm. In 1940 a similar badge was approved by the War Office although the use of the Crown was refused and 'For the Forces' added, the badge was in chrome and enamel. See: 'Doing Their Bit' by Jon Mills.

A scarce original Great War period 'Coventry Ordnance Works Ltd Special War Service badge' brass circular example bearing embossed title surround with 'Heavy Artillery Field Gun' to the centre; the reverse with individually struck official issue number '6346'. Very good condition, complete with an old replacement buttonhole fitting. Diameter 29mm. 'Coventry Ordnance Works Limited' was formed in 1905 by a consortium of shipbuilding firms John Brown, Yarrow, Cammell Laird and Fairfield, during the First World War they manufactured heavy artillery guns for the British Army and the Royal Navy. They closed in 1925.

A generally recognised pattern gilt badge with embossed Crowned 'S' style patriotic title inlaid with red, white and blue enamel and inscribed 'On War Service 1915' with an additional scroll below 'Drewry Lane Works', the reverse with maker's details 'T.Fattorini Bolton'. Very good condition, complete with unusual original horizontal pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright. Height 31mm.

A scarce original First World War period patriotic 'Serving The Empire United Alkali Co Ltd war workers badge'; gilt brass circular example surmounted by a Crown, the title surround inlaid with blue enamel, the centre displaying an embossed 'UAC' monogram over the symbol of unity a pair of shaking hands, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'T.Fattorini Bolton' and official issue number '1101'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel. Height 36mm. The 'United Alkali Company Limited' Cunard Building, Liverpool, was a British chemical company formed in 1890. It became one of the top four chemical companies which merged in 1926 with Brunner Mond, Nobel Explosives and British Dyestuffs Corporation to form Imperial Chemical Industries.
