A scarce original First World War period patriotic 'Serving The Empire United Alkali Co Ltd war workers badge'; gilt brass circular example surmounted by a Crown, the title surround inlaid with blue enamel, the centre displaying an embossed 'UAC' monogram over the symbol of unity a pair of shaking hands, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'T.Fattorini Bolton' and official issue number '1101'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel. Height 36mm. The 'United Alkali Company Limited' Cunard Building, Liverpool, was a British chemical company formed in 1890. It became one of the top four chemical companies which merged in 1926 with Brunner Mond, Nobel Explosives and British Dyestuffs Corporation to form Imperial Chemical Industries.

On the 2nd December 1915 'Bowley Preece & Co Ltd 242 Broad St. Birmingham', placed an advertisement in the 'Birmingham Mail' for a job available, describing themselves as: 'CABINET MAKERS and Carrera for Saddle Bar Brassing; good wages; Government work'.

Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, some minor stress marks. Height 36mm. 'John Crossley and Sons Ltd Halifax' were carpet manufacturers, during the First World War they turned ther hands to producing webbing and blankets and the factory was used for munition production.

A rare original First World War period 'Phelon & Moore Ltd 1914 1915 official on war service gilt and enamel war workers badge'; the reverse impressed with partial obscured maker's details 'Toye & Co. London'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel. Diameter 26mm. 'Phelon & Moore Ltd' manufactured motorcycles in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire from 1904 to 1967 particularly those under the Panther name. The Royal Flying Corps used Phelon & Moore motorcycles during the First World War.

A scarce original Great War period badge in the form of a large die-cast oxidized silver plated framed oval resting in laurel sprays, with ribbon title scroll below 'Joan of Arc Hostel 1916', the centre depicting an embossed figure of the Saint holding her sword. Very good condition, complete with original heavy duty pin fittings, minimal wear to silver plating. An excellent example. Height 53mm. During the First World War the 'Joan of Arc Hostel Plumstead London' was one of several hostels to accommodate the women workers from Royal Arsenal Woolwich munition factory.

'N.E.S.Co Ltd' established as the 'Newcastle upon Tyne Electric Supply Company' in 1889, renamed the 'North Eastern Electricity Supply company' in circa 1932, (also abbreviated to NESCo).
