A good original '2016 Cirencester Park Polo Club membership badge'; gold chromium plated and enamel example depicting a galloping polo pony and competitor rider with raised mallet in hand; the reverse impressed with maker's details "W.O.Lewis (Badges) Ltd B'Ham 19" and official issue number "555". Very good condition, enamel perfect and complete with original pin fittings and cord.
A scarce original '1920's Polo enthusiasts annual membership badge'; crowned circular gilded brass example inlaid with dark red enamel, displaying white laurel sprays joined at the base by a ribbon bow; the reverse impressed in relief "Ranelagh Club 1920" and with official issue "No.1797". Excellent condition, complete with original suspension ring to attach to a fob, enamel perfect, gilt remains bright.
The Ranelagh Club was famous throughout the world for the equestrian ball game 'Polo'. Founded in 1878 it was situated at Barn Elms, Richmond upon Thames, London. The club had approximately 3000 affluent members by 1913, including many prominent military figures and members of different Royal Families. It closed shortly before the Second World War.
