WW2 Air Transport Auxiliary ATA silver and enamel pilots badge


A rare original Second World War period 1939 - 1945 civilian pilot's 'Air Transport Auxiliary jewellers quality silver badge'; oval green enamelled oak wreath surmounted by an eagle, "ATA" on blue enamel ground to the centre, all resting on Latin motto scroll "Aetheris Avidi" (Eager for the Air), the reverse impressed "Silver". Very good condition, retaining the original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order and correct pattern for this badge, enamel perfect, an excellent example.
Height 29mm.

Air Transport Auxiliary created 1939 and based in White Waltham, Maidenhead, Berkshire. It was disbanded in 1945.
