A good original First World War period 'Central Association of Volunteer Training Corps badge', Crowned oval title, the centre depicting the war goddess 'Bellona'; the reverse with maker's details 'Fattorini & Sons Bradford' and with 'Regd 644266' a registered, design and patent date of early 1915. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel.

The Central Association of Volunteer Training Corps was formed in1914, to counter the threat of a German invasion, it was officially recognised by the War Office. It was suspended in 1918, and officially disbanded in January 1920.

A scarce original First World War 1914 -1919 period Volunteer Force 'Buckinghamshire Volunteer Defence Corps badge', die- stamped bronzed example in the form of a swan bearing coronet and chain round its neck, the scroll below inscribed "Bucks VDC 1914", the reverse retaining one of two wires, otherwise very good condition.

The swan was the ancient badge of the 'de Bohum' family from whence it passed to the 'Stafford Dukes of Buckingham'.
